I’m Kate!

I’m a dreamer. A maker and creator. A mom of four boys. A wife. A lazy homemaker. I love color and vibrancy, yet I embrace neutrals and lack. I can’t help but try out every new craft and skill I hear about, and as such my home is littered with a thousand little half-made projects. It gets overwhelming, and every once in a while, I find myself blowing through like a hurricane, determined to organize it all into some sort of meaningful order. It rarely works.

I LOVE organization. I salivate over good storage ideas. I also have an ache in my heart for old things. Brickwork, old wooden crates, ghost signs, chipped paint layers, rusted metal hinges, frayed rope – my aesthetic embraces the neglected. I love upcycling the old to make them new. I also love taking something new and pristine to make it look old and worn in.

I am an intuitive cook who rarely measures ingredients. I am NOT an intuitive baker, and I ALWAYS measure. I have traveled far less than I wish but farther than many I know.

For every bit of polish and luster I show, there’s a big messy ball of windswept quirk inside that thrives on chaos. Life is merely a series of huge fails that lead me to a bunch of small small successes that get shared in this blog. Art, crafts, and DIY are all about giving it a try. Start where you are. Don’t run before you can walk. Know your limits – and that you HAVE no limits. Eventually, you will get where you want to be. With practice, patience and passion, you can make anything you want to make your life what you wish it to be. Now get out there and MAKE something!
