Apple Pie Overnight Oats
These easy overnight oats are infused with the flavors of apple pie! They are naturally sweetened, perfect for fall, and just 6 wholesome ingredients are required! The Apple Pie Overnight Oats are easily made in just minutes the night before giving you a deliciously healthy breakfast as soon as you wake up!
What Are Overnight Oats?
Overnight oats are a no-cook method of preparing oats that involves soaking them in liquid (usually milk and/or yogurt) overnight, which essentially “cooks” the oats and softens them so they’re ready to eat come morning. No stovetop required!
Are Overnight Oats Healthy?
YES! Overnight oats are an extremely healthy and wholesome meal, especially when made with nutrient-rich ingredients like rolled oats, chia seeds, and almond milk. They’re also a great way to get in some extra protein and fiber, which is always a good thing.
Can You Make Overnight Oats Ahead of Time?
Absolutely! Overnight oats are the perfect make-ahead breakfast or snack. Simply prepare them according to the recipe instructions, then store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
When Are Overnight Oats Ready to Eat?
Overnight oats are ready to eat as soon as they’re assembled – no cooking required! However, I do recommend letting them sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) to give the oats time to soften and absorb all the liquid.
How Long Can You Store Overnight Oats?
Overnight oats will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days, so they make a great make-ahead breakfast or snack. Just be sure to store them in an airtight container.
Do Overnight Oats Make You Gain Weight?
No, overnight oats will not make you gain weight. In fact, they’re a healthy and wholesome meal that can actually help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
Can I Use Instant Oatmeal Instead of Rolled Oats?
Yes, you can use instant oatmeal instead of rolled oats. However, I do not recommend using steel-cut oats or quick-cooking oats, as they will not soften properly and will result in a chewy texture.
What Kind of Apples Should I Use?
For this recipe, I recommend using Granny Smith apples because they’re tart and have a firm texture, which helps them hold up well during the soaking process. However, you can really use any type of apple you like.
If you want a sweeter overnight oats recipe, you can use Honeycrisp apples. For a more tart/tangy recipe, use green apples. And for a softer, more delicate flavor, use red delicious apples.
Can I Use Non-Dairy Milk?
Yes, you can use non-dairy milk in this recipe. I recommend using almond milk, but any type of non-dairy milk will work.
Can I Use a Different Type of Sweetener?
Yes, you can use a different type of sweetener if you prefer. Maple syrup, honey, and agave nectar are all good options. You can also use Stevia, but you will need to add more to taste, as it is a lot sweeter than sugar.
What Other Mix-Ins Can I Add?
There are so many delicious mix-ins you can add to these overnight oats! Here are a few ideas:
- Dried fruit
- Nuts or seeds
- Shredded coconut
- Chocolate chips
- Peanut butter or almond butter
- Protein powder
- Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin pie spice
Ingredients
- 2 cup whole milk
- 2 cups overnight rolled oats
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 granny smith apple, diced
Instructions
Core, slice and dice the apple. I like to use pieces about a half an inch by one inch long. But you can use however big you like.
Add the apple chunks to a medium sized bowl along with brown sugar, oats and cinnamon.
In a separate bowl or jug, combine milk and vanilla.
Add milk mixture to oats and apples. Stir to combine.
Scoop the mixture evenly into four jars. These ones are my favorite, as they are dishwasher safe and are super awesome for food storage.
Add the tops and refrigerate overnight. Add more brown sugar in the morning if you’d like. Serve warm or cold, as preferred.
It’s super simple, and now you have four meals with ten minutes of work. Plus, they taste amazing. They are super portable, so you can take them with you on the go. If you plan on being away from a fridge for more than an hour or so, I’d suggest using a non-dairy milk for this recipe. It makes it easier to keep fresh for longer. Otherwise, keep it refrigerated until ready to eat. Then simply eat straight from the jar or microwave it.
