Make Your Own Portable Bullet Journal System From a Makeup Bag!
Okay, friends. I have to tell you that I am in so much love with my newest discovery. I was browsing Target the other day as I waited to pick my kids up from school, and I came across a small aisle full of fun makeup bags. Now, I’ve already found a way to turn makeup storage into office storage when I used a clear acrylic makeup brush holder to hold dozens of my favorite markers and pens. But this new discovery was even better!
Target has so many cute makeup bags of various sizes, and they each have their own internal organizational system. I was especially enamored with the Orla Kiely bags, which are SO funky and adorable! But they are a bit more expensive than my needs allow. In fact, as I looked around, I realized that I could never justify spending money on a makeup bag, as I just don’t have enough makeup! But as I looked around, inspiration suddenly struck, and I started to think – what if I could use one of these for craft storage? And suddenly I knew! This would be the PERFECT portable BuJo system!
I settled on this weekender bag, as it was a perfect size and had different compartments inside, which I thought would be seriously awesome to hold various supplies. Plus, it is totally cute! And while it is normally $24.99, for some reason in my local store, it was on sale for only $14! I couldn’t resist!
I tried to figure out which of my journaling supplies were absolute staples. I thought about the things I use most regularly. I gathered them up and wondered if they would all fit. It sure looked like a lot of things! But to my surprise, they all fit in with plenty of room to spare! I literally could fit twice as much stuff inside with no issues!
Seriously, for traveling, this is an easy way to keep your supplies with you without losing them. But for everyday portability it is even better! My journal normally stays in my craft room, which is a shame since I’d use it much more if it was with me. But I don’t like to have to gather supplies and run in and out to get what I need. By keeping all the basics together, I am ensuring I can have exactly what I need on hand at all times. This makeup bag could even fit in one of my larger purses, so I could bring it with me anywhere I go. Or, because it’s so darn cute, I could just carry it with me like a purse! There’s even enough room that I could put my phone, keys and wallet inside!
Frankly, I am super impressed with my new system. I even have some thoughts on customization in future. How awesome would it be to create a couple of pockets that can go on the outside of the bag? Or add a few fun embellishments such as felt flowers or embroidery?
